Why Your Nervous System is the Key to Maximum Health and Function

I bet you never thought that your nervous system was the key to better function and health. Most people don’t really think about their nervous system until they have some type of symptom related to a nerve problem. Well, I have news for you, the nervous system is not only “A” key, but is “THE” key to maximum health and function, and here is why.

Your nervous system consists of billions and billions of neurons that literally attach your brain to the rest of your body. Every single system, organ, and tissue in the body has nerves attached to it. The brain uses this network of nerves so that it can control and coordinate all bodily functions. Name a function: heart function, lung function, digestive function, reproductive function, immune function, and the list goes on. Every function your body performs requires brain-body communication through the nervous system.

The brain, through the nervous system, also regulates your body’s response to the environment. If it’s hot, you sweat. If it’s cold, you shiver. If you are in danger, fight or flight responses kick in. This is all directed by the brain through the nervous system.

I think you get the picture. Your brain and nervous system run your body, and all bodily functions are dependent on vital information transfer from the brain to the body and from the body back to the brain over the nervous system.

What is Health?

Is it when your body functions at 50%, 75%, or 100%? Tabors medical dictionary states the health is “when ALL bodily functions are normally active.” Normally active sounds a lot like 100% to me. That’s what I want for my family, 100% normal function. How about you? That can only happen if the vital information that regulates function is transmitted from the brain to the body and the body to the brain at 100%.

What can interfere with the vital communication between the brain and the body? Your spinal column. It just so happens that the super information highway called your spinal cord travels down your spinal column (spinal bones). Off the spinal cord are branches called spinal nerve roots that go to every system, organ, and tissue in your body. The spinal bones line up to create the conduit for the spinal cord. When the vertebrae are lined up properly and moving properly, they allow for the transfer of vital messages without any obstruction or interference. However, when the spinal bones are not lined up or moving properly, then the vital messages needed to regulate maximum function are altered. Alteration or interference to vital nerve messages leads to malfunction within the body and decreases health and well-being.

When the spinal bones misalign in such a way to interfere with vital nerve message transmission, this is called a Vertebral Subluxation. You may be surprised to know that doctors of chiropractic are the only healthcare professionals who are trained to detect and correct Vertebral Subluxations. Chiropractic doctors help your body function better at every level when they remove Vertebral Subluxations. They improve the internal communication necessary for your body to function properly and be vibrantly healthy.

I can testify to this – for years I had nausea 4-5 days/week. I tried all kinds of healthy things to get relief, but for me it was regular chiropractic care that finally allowed my body to heal. That was 6-1/2 years ago & chiropractic is still a big part of my health routine!
